Lights and receptacles stop working?

Three receptacles and two overhead lights just stopped working. No breaker flipped and tester shows power going through all breakers. Tested recepts. with digital meter. No reading between common and power but 120V between common and ground and power and ground. couldn't find a loose wire or short anywhere. Any suggestions?
